Concerning the Olympics
Here's a great (if not a little racially insensitive) piece about the present Olympic controversy that has the world abuzz with boycotts and protests. This featured column was authored by a man who is also my go-to movie critic: Eric Snider.
enjoy ----->"The China Monologues"
[and so you're back from outer space]

I just walked in to find you here with that look upon your face
I will read that tomorrow
when I don't have 30 pages of chem due in the am!
I must say that I found the article a little interesting, but I wasn't too impressed. It seems to me as though he was summarizing hear-say in a comical matter, and over-simplifying the real issues. Maybe I am too sensitive about these issues, but I feel as though this controversy deserves more than just a shrug and a sigh. China has been violating Tibet's human and religious rights well before their occupation. They have displaced Tibet's political and religious leaders, as well as attempted the destruction of Tibet's culture. Beyond the issue of Tibet, there are other concerns that make Beijing a bad choice for the Olympics. Before China won the bid for the Olympics, they promised to meet higher air quality standards so that the athletes would not be harmed. These have not been met. And then there are the human rights violations that are happening within the country.
I don't mean to be rude, and especially not to you Stephen. I just think that the article failed to show the level of consideration that these issues deserve.
